WEEKLY INFORMATIONAL MESSAGE / VISITOR COVID 19 TESTING

 

Since our last message, we have had no residents or staff members test positive for COVID-19 or have had any respiratory symptoms. 

Effective Monday, March 27, 2023, Jamaica Hospital Nursing Home will no longer require proof of a negative COVID-19 test to visit.  For the safety of our residents, staff, and visitors, we ask that all visitors adhere to our Infection Control practices, practice proper hand hygiene and wear appropriate PPE as directed by the facility while visiting.  Masks must still be worn while visiting.

Although testing is no longer mandatory, our main priority continues to be keeping our residents, staff, and visitor safe.  We ask that if you exhibit any signs of COVID-19 such as Fever or chills, Cough, Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, Fatigue, Muscle or body aches, Headache, New loss of taste or smell, Sore throat, Congestion or runny nose, Nausea or vomiting or Diarrhea, that you refrain from visiting until you are symptom-free.  In addition, if you have been exposed to COVID-19, we ask that you please test prior to visiting.  Posters with these symptoms as well as COVID 19 awareness information are posted throughout the facility for your reference.

Testing kits will continue to be available while supplies last should you wish to continue to test prior to visiting.

The COVID-19 vaccine and COVID-19 Bivalent Booster, as well as the Influenza Vaccine are all available to all residents. We strongly urge all Residents to take advantage of the opportunity to be fully vaccinated and up to date by receiving all recommended doses of the COVID 19 vaccine as well as the COVID 19 booster and Influenza vaccine.

Since our last update, we have had no positive cases of case of COVID-19 identified at our facility.

Since April 2020, We have had 0 residents or staff members with new-onset respiratory symptoms that have occurred within 72 hours of each other.

Since April 2020, We have had 361 Residents and Staff members combined test positive for COVID-19.

Visitation is permitted. An informational message has also been sent to all Residents and Family Members via telephone call and/or email regarding the visitation status. Compassionate Care visits continue to be available for all Residents.

As per the Governor’s order, Jamaica Hospital Nursing Home will require proof of a negative COVID-19 test for every visitor to the facility.  Rapid antigen tests must be taken within 24 hours of entering the facility and PCR tests must be taken within 48 hours of entering the facility.  Documentation of this test must be provided prior to entry. If a rapid test is used, the visitor must present the actual test with the date written on the test.

While supplies last, visitors who are not able to provide a test result will be given a self-test kit and will be instructed to administer the test outside of the facility and return with the results.  If a test result is positive, the visitor will be denied entry.

To ensure the good health and well-being of our residents and staff, we have taken the following actions in accordance with our Infection Control “best practices”:

On-site COVID-19 testing for Residents, Staff and visitors;

COVID-19 Antibody testing for Staff;

Separate designated units for residents who have tested positive for COVID-19 and have been tested and are negative for COVID-19;

Consistent staffing teams for each unit;

Personal protective equipment (PPE) for all staff members;

Monitoring of residents by our clinical team for changes in medical condition;

Frequent cleaning of all units and high touch surfaces;

Residents and Staff are tested for COVID-19 as directed.

Screening of all staff prior to the start of their shift for fever or any signs of respiratory symptoms.

RESIDENT CLOTHING AND PERSONAL PROPERTY

Jamaica Hospital Nursing Home strives to protect and preserve the personal property of each of our residents.  We recommend all items be labeled or marked with resident’s name for easy identification.

It is very important that all clothing and other personal items be listed on the inventory check list.  Please notify the Staff of any items brought into the facility and any items taken out of the facility so the inventory check list can be updated and items can be labeled by the facility.

COVID VACCINE AND BIVALENT BOOSTER , INFLUENZA, AND PNEUMONIA VACCINES AVAILABLE TO ALL RESIDENTS

With the uptick of COVID-19 cases, all residents of Jamaica Hospital Nursing Home are encouraged to receive the COVID-19 vaccine and bivalent booster.  The COVID-19 Pfizer vaccine - doses 1 and 2, and Bivalent  are all available to every resident as well as the influenza and pneumonia vaccines.
